Ever since the internet exploded in the early 2000's companies have been jumping on board to be a part of the next big thing online. Amazon, Zillow, Legal Zoom, Care.com and Angies List are just a few major corporations that have taken advantage of the booming makret of online sales.
A few years back several venture capitalists and angel investors decided that they wanted to be a part of the exploding pet sitting and dog walking industry. They raised millions of dollars to form an online venue to match "pet care" providers with pet owners who are looking for alternatives to boarding their dogs.
So What Is Wrong With This Business Model?
I'd like to begin by saying not all contractors that are hired off of Rover and DogVacay are irresponsible or unqualified to care for pets, however as a dog mom and an owner of a pet care business I have my concerns on how they contract pet care providers and bigger is not always better.
