I've always been drawn to animals. Growing up we always had some sort of animal in the house-dog, cat, hamsters, birds. It didn't matter what it was-if it was furry, it was going to be my friend. I am a wife and mother to two boys, 10 & 13 years old (three boys if you count the husband-tee hee) and two dogs, a 5 year old Smooth Coated Collie and a 13 year old lab/Great Dane mix. Originally from Kansas City, I met my husband there while attending school to become a Veterinary Technician. After graduating, my husband and I became engaged and moved to Omaha so that Kirk could join the family business.
Once in Omaha, I worked in the veterinary field at a general practice, an emergency vet, and for a specialty practice. Once we started a family, I decided to stay home and take care of the kids. Soon I found myself missing the veterinary field so I decided to start volunteering in the surgery department at the Nebraska Humane Society. I also volunteered with the Boys & Girls Clubs. Once our youngest was in school I decided it was time to go back to work, but wanted to still be able to take the kids to school and pick them up. A friend of mine was working at this wonderful company called Housebound Hounds with hours that were perfect. How perfect getting paid to exercise and play with animals? What more could you want?
As of last October I've been with the company for 4 years and am loving it. I've grown so attached to our furry clients and can't wait to see them everyday. I get such joy in seeing them happy, worry when they are sick and cry when they grow old and pass (the part of the job I hate the most). The best part is walking into a house and getting greeted by a furry bundle of joy that is so excited to see you and can't wait wait to give you kisses! I absolutely love our clients-both 2 and 4 legged!
I'm currently still volunteering at the Humane Society one day a week. When I'm not working I love spending time with my family.
