When looking at the image above your first reaction may be "aww...look at that cute little pup on the computer". If your 100 pound dog was standing on the computer, especially if it was yours, your reaction may be a little different.
Dogs have all different types of personalities, some are breed specific while some behaviors can be attributed to the size of the dog. Have you ever heard; "it's not the size of the dog in the fight it's the size of the fight in the dog"?
Behaviors we don't allow our big dogs to do, we allow our small dogs to do because "it's cute".
Do we look at small dogs as perpetual puppies or babies and that is why we let them get away with behaviors we wouldn't let a big dog do? If a St. Bernard was acting aggressively towards a neighbor they could do some obvious damage, if a Malti-Poo acted the same way people may laugh, think it's funny until they got bit on the ankle.
Is managing a small dog's unwanted behavior by picking them up okay because it's easy? We can't pick up a 100 pound black lab so training is the only option.
When your kids were small it was easier to pick up a toddler throwing a tantrum in the middle of the store than it was to "train" them to behave properly in the store (at that moment anyways). When your babies grow up to be 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, discipline is the only solution.
